Font Notes:
An undated B&W photograph [1M16-B145111:207] by Ernst Fischer in the VGM Foto collection of the Västergötlands museum [https://digitaltmuseum.se/021017209171/nu-i-vastergotlands-museums-samlingar] [accessed 7 July 2020] shows a photograph of this font captioned: "Dopfunt i Fornminnesföreningens museum i Edåsa. [...] Nu i Västergötlands museums samlingar. [...] Date published August 18, 2017". The font in the photograph is the one identified in the SHM entry below as the medieval font originally from the demolished church of Södra Kyrketorps, later moved to Stenstorp new church and located in its porch [vapenhuset]. It appears, then, that this font was for a time in the Fornminnesföreningens museum i Edåsa, the made-up museum located inside the decommissioned parish of Edåsa [cf. BSI entry]; in 1938 the made-up museum was returned to its original function as parish church and its contents removed to either their churches of origin or, as probably happened in this case, when there was no longer church to go back to, to the new Västergötlands museum in Skara. From there it must have been moved to Stenstorp new church. Noted in Hallbäck (1971). Baptismal font of sandstone, originally from the demolished medieval church at Södra Kyrketorp; it consists of a cylindrical basin with a number of animal and vegetal motifs framed between rope mouldings all around the basin sides, all done in very shallow relief; raised directly on a round moulded lower base decorated with a rope moulding all around. The font was installed in the newly built Stenstorp parish church in 1817. No cover present. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 920507F3] as a baptismal font made of sandstone by a regional workshop in the late-12th century. [cf. BSI entry for Södra Kyrketorp for another medieval font said to be from that church].
