Noted in Jonas Haas' Mellby kyrka, JÖNKÖPINGS LÄNS MUSEUM Byggnadsvårdsrapport 2006:5 [https://jonkopingslansmuseum.se/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Mellby-ka.pdf] [accessed 4 July 2020]; Haas makes reference to Gunnar Lindqvist's Mellby kyrka ̧ Linköpings stiftsråds kyrkobeskrivningskommitté (Linköping 1988). The present baptismal font was made of brass in 1663; a roughly hemispherical basin with a pronounced upper rim; decorated below the rim with incised an inscription and foloral or foliage motifs below; gadrooned patterns on the underbowl; moulded stem and splaying lower base, both round in shape; the dome font cover appears to be of the same material and design as the font. This font was probably introduced when the church was re-built in the 17th century. [NB: we have no information on the font of the earlier church here]
