Scene Description: the base of the old carved font is visible here on the right, during the 2005-2007 excavations; it would be later re-united with its basin in the new church at Bjärklunda -- the source caption "Här låg flera individer begravda" refers to the human remains found in graves unearthed here, some of which are visible in the photograph.

When the two hamlets of Bjärka and Härlunda merged into one village named Bjärklunda in the 1780s their two medieval churches were demolished and a new one was built for Bjärklunda using some of the materials; the medieval font originally from Härlunda was installed in the chancel of the new church; the second medieval font, a plain hemispherical basin, went into the 'vapenhuset' of the new church. An 1863 drawing of the basin originally from Härlunda by P.A. Säves [cf. ImagesArea] includes text which identifies the material as soapstone [cf. infra] and gives some measurements of the basin. That carved medieval font originally from Härlunda is notd and illustrated in Hallbäck (1971). It is also noted and illustrated in the SHM’s database Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 920528F2] as a Bolumgruppen baptismal font made of sandstone [cf. supra] in the mid-12th century. A report on the excavation of the demolished medieval church of Härlunda is available at https://shfstor.blob.core.windows.net/harlunda-bjarka/uploads/file/Rapport_2018_5.pdf [accessed 30 June 2020]; among other findings the report notes that the base of the medieval font was found in the ruins, towards the east end of the nave, by the chancel, south side, and that the base was eventually moved to the new church [="Ett fundament till en dopfunt hittades i övergången mellan långhuset och koret på den södra sidan (se fig. 23).
