Font Notes:
This object is identified in our source [www.flickr.com/photos/udalatx/3411776511/in/photostream/] [accessed 10 June 2020], as a fountain: "Fuente / Iturria / Fount, Apotzaga (Eskoriatza, Basque Country)" but, to judge by its size and shape, it could very well be a re-cycled basin of a medieval baptismal font; the one detail that makes little sense in a fountain but it is often foun in baptismal font basin is the drepression around the interior of the upper rim; it is often carved to fit a font cover, a mandatory complement throughout the Middle Ages. This object has a clearly defined depression all around; it has also a notch or damage in the upper rim consistent with the possible presence of an anchorage or lock spot for a cover. Additionally, the 'base' on which the font stands may have been another re-cycled element, looking very much like the plate of a stone mill.
