Font Notes:
Noted and illustrated in the SHM’s database Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 920611F3] as a baptismal font made of sandstone by a regional hand ca. 1200. The font consists of a roughly cylindrical basin decorated with an interlace that appears to be made of the writhing bodies of snakes, all around, between two rows of saw-tooth motif; the thick rope moulding appears to be part of the basin block; raised on a roughly conical pedestal base decorated with vertical grooves; uuper rim damage; a rather crude work. No cover present but baptismal dish in use. The entry for this church in Svenska kyrkan [https://www.svenskakyrkan.se/vargarda/ornungakyrka] [accessed 9 May 2020] notes that the present font in the new church at Ornunga, made of sandstone in the 13th century and said to be of the "Nårungaskolan", was originally from the old parish church at Ljur [= "Dopfunten i sandsten, dekorerad med slingor, kommer ursprungligen från Ljurs gamla kyrka. Den är från tidigt 1200-tal och liknande dopfuntar hör till den s.k. Nårungaskolan"]. The IGLABO entry for the disappeared church at Ljur [https://iglabo.se/berattelser/ljurs-kyrka/] [accessed 9 May 2020] informs that the medieval font from Ljur had disappeared; it was later found damaged and built into the walls of a nearby outbuilding; it was later moved to the new church at Ornunga [="Den medeltida dopfunten var länge försvunnen men återfanns inmurad i ett uthus och var då något skadad. Nu finns den i Omunga nya kyrka. En offerkista av ek innehållande bl.a. en kyrknyckel förvaras i Ornunga gamla kyrka."
