Church Notes: the church, a chapel of ease to Henvyvyw, is modern
In the entry for Henvynyw [Henfynyw] St David's church Evans (1914) writes "The Bowl of the stone Font, formerly in use in this ancient church, is now preserved in the porch of Holy Trinity, Aberaeron". In his entry for Aberaeron, which he identifies as a modern chapel of ease, Evans (1914) describes its own font as modern, "given in memory of George F. Freeman", who died in 1873. The entry for this church in COFLEIN [www.coflein.gov.uk/en/site/306602/details/holy-trinity-church-aberaeron] [accessed 5 January 2020] notes: "The church was consecrated in 1875. Originally built in 1835 for Colonel Gwynne by Edward Haycock of Shrewsbury, the church was rebuilt in 1872 in Early Decorated Gothic style by Middleton & Goodman of Cheltenham, the tower added in 1878 [...] Fittings include font and pulpit of heavily shafted stone and marble carved by R.Boulton (1873)". The illustrattion included in COFLEIN, however, originally from the RCAHMW [NMR Catalogue Number : C600120 / File Reference : AA51/5812], shows an ancient stone font, likely the one from Henyvyw / Henfynyw mentioned in Evans [cf. supra]. [NB: we have been unable to confirm if the old font is still located in the porch at Aberaeron, but the COFLEIN entry for Henfynyw appears to indicate it is there again [cf. BSI entry for Henfynyw]]
