Baptismal font noted in C. Bertea's Il Fonte Battesimale di San Martino (Torino, 1936, pp. 7-10). The entry for this baptismal font in the Museo Civico d'Arte Antica [https://www.palazzomadamatorino.it/it/le-collezioni/catalogo-delle-opere-online/battesimo] [accessed 17 November 2019] notes: "Il fonte battesimale fu donato al Museo nel 1884 da Carlo Alfieri di Stostegno, cugino di Emanuele d'Azeglio che lo rinvenne in un sotterraneo del suo castello di San Martino Alfieri, in prossimità del luogo in cui sorgeva la chiesa di Santa Maria, abbattuta nel 1833, da cui è probabile che arrivi. La vasca aveva una sezione ottagonale a cui fu decurtata un'intera faccia e parti delle due vicine per inserirla parzialmente in un museo o in un pilastro. l'invaso è emisferico e nel fondo si apre un foro per lo scolo dell'acqua. Sull'orlo sono ricavati uno scasso angolare e tre fori, funzionali ad ancorare il coperchio. Le facce sono incorniciate, in alto, da un listello e un toro e, in basso, da una fascia liscia; sono divise da colonnine con paitelli a foglie d'acqua e abaco decorato da una fila di fori di trapano. Su quattro lati è raffigurata una cerimonia battesimale, sugli altri lati probbilmente avrebbe trovato posto il peccato dei progenitori. Il Bertea ritenne le scene allusive ai personaggi della famiglia Solaro. Toesca lo confronta con il fonte di San Lorenzo in Chiavenna datato 1156. Cfr. allegati."
