The entry for the Cluniac Nunnery at Arthington in the Victoria County History (York, vol. 3, 1974) notes: "The priory of Arthington, the only house of Cluniac nuns in the county, [...] was founded by Peter de Arthington, either at the end of the reign of Stephen, or at the beginning of that of Henry II [ca. 1150?] The house was surrendered by Elizabeth Hall, the prioress, and the convent on 26 November 1540." [NB: both St Peter's and St May and St Abanoub churches in Arthington are modern]
