No individual entry for Sinningthwaite / Syningthwaite found in the Domesday survey. The entry for the Cistercian Priory of Sinningthwaite in the Victoria County History (York, vol. 3, 1974) notes: "Sinningthwaite Priory, in Bilton-in-Ainsty, was founded about 1160 by Bertram Haget, who gave the site, [...] and the gift was confirmed by his overlord, Roger de Mowbray [...] The priory of Sinningthwaite was supervised by the commissioners on 10 June 1535, [...] and suppressed on 3 August following." The entry for Sinningthwaite / Syningthwaite in the CRSBI (2019) notes: "The principal Romanesque survival is the doorway to the present-day farmhouse in its N wall, originally one of the claustral (refectory) entrances."
