There are two entries for [South] Kyme in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TF1749/south-kyme/] [accessed 25 August 2019]; it reports a priest and two churches in it. Kelly's Directory of Lincolnshire (1896) notes: "The church of St. Mary and All Saints, the south aisle of which formed part of the church of the priory, is an ancient and interesting edifice of stone in the Norman and Later styles [...] The church of St. Mary and All Saints, the south aisle of which formed part of the church of the priory, is an ancient and interesting edifice of stone in the Norman and Later styles [...] the old octagonal stone font has been restored and placed on an octagonal base and step at the west end of the aisle". The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF1685449788] notes: "Parish church, former Augustinian Priory founded before 1196. Cll, C14, restored and largely rebuilt 1890 [...] Ashlar octagonal bowl and stem font." The entry for this church in the CRSBI (2019) notes: "the discovery of six fragments dated between the late 8th and the early 9thc, now reset in the E end of the N wall, suggests that the site was previously occupied by an Anglo-Saxon church. The building, as it stands today, is primarily the remains of the 14thc W end of the S aisle and the S part of the nave of the Augustinian priory church. The building was partially rebuilt in 1805 and then extensively restored by Charles Hodgson Fowler in 1888-90." The font has a blank shield inscribed in a cusped quatrefoil in each panel of the octagonal basin, a roll moulding below them and anothe moulding in the centre ring position, at the top of the pedestal base; the sides of the octagonal pedestal base are decorated with a large trefoiled window in each; the octagonal lower base is moulded. Not clear how much of this carving was part of the alterations to the font done in the 19th century [cf. supra]. The font cover, octagonal, flat and plain, is modern.
