There is a 1841 sepia wash drawing of a font at Acton Trussell by John Buckler in the William Salt Library [www.search.staffspasttrack.org.uk/Details.aspx?&ResourceID=7238&PageIndex=52&SearchType=2&ThemeID=124] [accessed 22 July 2019]. The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Stafford, vol. 5, 1959) notes: "A[cton Trussell] and Bednall, formerly two joint townships and chapelries within the ancient parish of Baswich, [...] now form a single civil parish [...] each chapel presumably having all rights of a parish church. [...] The chapel of Acton Trussell was built in the 13th century, presumably as a dependent chapel of Baswich [...] The church of ST. JAMES, Acton Trussell, stands a quarter of a mile south of the village. Before the middle of the 19th century it was approached by a footpath only. [...] The original structure dates from the 13th and 14th centuries, but the church was enlarged and partly rebuilt in 1870 under the direction of G. E. Street. [...] The present stone font is of the 19th century, but an early tub-shaped bowl is preserved in the churchyard. In 1841 the church contained an 18th-century pedestal font. (fn. 133) An old bassoon is preserved below the tower." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SJ9373217455] notes: "Parish Church. c1300 with later additions, restored 1869-70 by G.E. Street. [...] C19 font, circular with moulded base and arcaded bowl; Medieval stone font in tower. " The updated entry in Historic England notes: "Medieval stone font is placed immediately outside the church entrance."
