There is an entry for Chelsea [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TQ2778/chelsea/] [accessed 27 June 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. A font in this church is illustrated in a B&W photograph by Francis R. Taylor and a measured drawing by E.R. Silver, in Survey of London (London: London County Council, 1921) [www.british-history.ac.uk/survey-london/vol7/pt3/plate-25] [accessed 27 June 2019]. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TQ2710077596] notes: "Church and tower mostly destroyed by bombing. South (More) Chapel probably C16 early, with C17 and later work. The remainder of the church has now been restored in fascimile. The church contains a large number of early monuments salvaged from destroyed church, and several small panels of C16 stained glass"; no font mentioned. A late-17th century font is mentioned in Randall Davies' Chelsea Old Church (London: Duckworth & Co, 1904, p. 74) [https://archive.org/details/chelseaoldchurc00davigoog/page/n15] [accessed 27 June 2019] notes: "1673. Luke the son of Thomas Gough was Baptized the 22nd of December, and was the First that was baptized in the new Font given by Mr. Edward Bringhurst." The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Middlesex, vol. 12, 2004) notes: "A rector was in dispute with the abbey in 1230 [...] The parish church of Chelsea was known originally as All Saints, [...] but from the late 17th century more commonly as St Luke's, [...] though not, apparently, because of a formal rededication despite the Evangelist's name being inscribed on a bell of 1673 [...] Fittings [...] include the baluster font of 1673, with a new cover". The late-17th century font consists of a small hemispherical basin with ribbed sides, raised on a round baluster-shaped pedestal base, and a tiny square plinth. A font cover with articulated counterweight mechanism is affixed to the ceiling above the font.
