Church Notes: documented in 1060 as the church of the Perse monastery but it must have existed much earlier; it served the outer community as parish church until the 18thC -- listed in Mérimée [ref. PA00094015]: " Eglise romane dont la reconstruction remonterait au 11e siècle, mais dont la fondation serait bien antérieure selon la tradition. L'église est largement sculptée, à l'extérieur comme à l'intérieur. L'intérieur conserve des restes de peinture."
There are two objects of our interest in this church, both located inside the secondary entrance into the south transept; one, attached to the south wall to the west of the doorway, is shaped like the half of an oval, not quite round, the straight side attached to the wall; the base is shaped similarly; the inner basin is quite shallow, totally inadequate for immersion baptism, although it obviously had been used as a font; there are a number of metal plugs in the upper rim, obviously anchoring points for an early cover; there is a small drain hole, again not quite were one would expect it, but off-centre, towards the back. No cover present. It is unlikely that a font -if that is wjat it is- like this would have been the medieval baptismal font of this impressive church. The second object of interest, also located inside the south transept, against the south side of the first pillar inside the entranceway, appears to be a monlithic holy-water stoup; the basin is polygonal on the outside, eroded and badly damaged, round on the inside; the pedestal base is also polygonal, with a roll moulding towards the top.
