Font Notes:
Baptismal font of coarse granite consisting of a roughly hemispherical, though almost cylindrical, basin raised on a sorth round pedestal base; the upper rim of the basin is decorated with a rope moulding; on the visible sides below -the back of the font is now inaccessible, against the wall- has what appears to be a scene involving several [three?] human figures: one small or kneeling, an orant figure on the right, and a standing figure on the left; on the further left a series of stylised standing figures appear; the surface is worn and therefore not ease to read; to the right of the scene is a hexafoiled motif inscribed in a circle; the rest of the basin, to the right of this motif is now hidden from view; the inner basin has a human figure carved on one of the sides and two Latin crosses next to it; central drain; the base is short and round, narrowing towards the bottom where it ends in a moulding. There is flat, round and plain wooden cover; it appears relatively modern. Augusto Guedes [Amigos del Romanico, e-mail communication with BSI] sugiere una datacion ca. 1231, year in which king Fernando III returns the 'coto' and the monastery to the bishop of Lugo, and the time of the second phase in the constuction of the church. Guedes [ibid.] points out that figure carved on the inside of the basin is actually two, a taller one in the back has its hands on the shoulders of a shorter one in front, the head of the latter at about chest-high of the former. Also in this church, and located near the font, is a plain holy-water stoup, probably medieval as well; it consists of a plain cylindrical basin raised on an equally plain round pedestal base.
