No individual entry found for Catley in the Domesday survey. The entry for this priory in the Victoria County History (Lincoln, vol. 2, 1906) notes: "The Gilbertine priory of St. Mary, Catley, was founded as a double house between 1148 and 1154 by Peter of Billinghay. [...] The number of inmates was limited by St. Gilbert to sixty nuns and lay sisters and thirty-five canons and lay brothers. [...] The house was surrendered by the prior and two canons on 25 September, 1538." The entry for this priory in Historic England (Legacy System number: 30001) notes: "The monument includes the remains of the Gilbertine Priory of St Mary, Catley, a double house for nuns and canons founded between 1146 and 1154 by Peter of Billinghay. [...] The remains take the form of a series of earthworks and buried deposits, including an area of earthworks representing the inner court of the priory, its buildings and water management features. [...] The northernmost building platforms surviving as earthworks include the remains of the church, which was partly excavated in 1775. [...] The cloisters lay adjacent to each other situated immediately to the south of the church."
