There are four entries for Grimsby [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TA2609/grimsby/] [accessed 29 April 2019] one of which reports a priest and a church in it. The entry for this house of Austin Canons in the Victoria County History (Lincoln, vol. 2, 1906) notes: "The abbey of Wellow was founded, like the priory of Dunstable, by King Henry I, [...] and dedicated to St. Augustine and St. Olaf. [...] There is no evidence at present to determine the exact date of foundation [...] The original endowment of the abbey of Wellow by Henry I consisted of the site in Grimsby, with the church of St. James and divers ponds, mills, &c. [...] It was dissolved before Michaelmas, 1536."
