The entry for this abbey in the Victoria County History (Lancaster, vol. 6, 1911) reports the foundation of the abbey in 1296, but the completion of the abbey church only ca. 1345; it also reports: "The parish church, surrounded by the village, stands near the north bank of the river in a central position, and has the ruins of the once great abbey to its west. [...] The actual remains at present are small. The church is all gone, except the south jamb of a window at the west end of the south aisle, which abuts against the west wall of the western range, a portion of about half the length of the south wall of the church, and of the south-west walls of the south transept"; no font mentioned.
