Font Notes:
The entry for Over Darwen in the Victoria County History (Lancashire, vol. 6, 1911) notes that the first notice of Darwen St James' "occurs in 1577" and mentions also a restoration of it in 1852; it also mentions a second church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity [now called St Peter's], built in 1829 by a parlamentary grant; there is mention of any font in the VCH entry.
