Font Notes:
Noted and illustrated in Tynell (1913-1919) as a 'Torrlösagruppen' baptismal font of sandstone with date ca. 1200. Noted and illustrated in Rydbeck (1936) in her section on 'Mästaren med korstriangeln'. Noted in Reutersvärd (1967). Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 951008F4] as a 'palmettgruppen' baptismal font made of sandstone ca. 1200; the SHM notes Rydbeck's attribution but does not endorse it. The font consists of a round basin with vertical sides and a rounded underbowl; raised on a round-to-square base. There is a band of horiontally-laid nested chevrons all around below the upper rim of the basin, with a broad vine with large round palmettes linked all around; the underbowl has very broad ribs; the base has a roll moulding atop, the sides [some of?] framed into semicircular panels; one of them contains a Greek cross in it; another some nlank round arch-heads. Some early photographs (e.g.: Tynell and Rydbeck) show the underbowl partly painted; the paint appears to have been almost totally removed; Tynell's early photograph [cf. ImagesArea] shows a large drain opening on the side of the base, near the top. There is no cover present but there is a notch in the upper rim that may have been an anchoring point for an old cover.
