Scene Description: Source caption: "There is evidence from 1271 that there was a church before the current one. The previous one was built in red brick, fell into disrepair and was demolished. The church was built in 1860 by John Dobson. There is a nave with western bellcote with one bell, chancel with apsoidal sanctuary, south porch, and north vestry. The whole church is built in the Norman revival style. Externally, the apse has a corbel table of carved heads, and there are chevron and dogtooth decorations around the windows. Inside there is a ribbed vault to the apse."

There are four enries for Sudbrooke [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TF0376/sudbrooke/] [accessed 19 January 2019], none of which mentions cleric or church in it. The entry for the present church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF0310476090] notes a modern church and "the Font and pulpit are also in Norman Revival style", the only medieval remnant being "an early C13 capital to drum pier with stiff leaf foliage" in the chancel. An additional entry in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF0310476071] lists a square cross base of the 14th century in this church. The modern font consists of a plain, roughly hemispherical basin raised on fives colonnettes and a polygonal plinth. [NB: we have no information on the font of the ca. 1123 church here].
