Scene Description: Source caption: "Interior of the Church of St Peter & St Paul, Old Bolingbroke. What you are looking at is the south isle of what was a much larger church. Through the arcade/pillars to the left was once the nave, which had a separate chancel. Now, this former south aisle is the main body of the church and the former nave is the north aisle. The chancel is usually divided from the nave by an archway, but not here. The photograph was taken from behind the font towards the 14th century east window."

There is an entry for [Old] Bolingbroke [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TF3565/old-bolingbroke/] [accessed 31 December 2018]; it reports a church in it. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF3495165136] notes: "Parish church. c.1360, possibly for John of Gaunt. Partly destroyed in the Civil War, restored 1866 by James Fowler of Louth, and again in 1889. [...] C14 inner doorway with moulded pointed head, demi shafts with foliate capitals. To the east side a holy water stoup on octagonal pillar with cusped and crocketed canopy. [...] Fittings all C19 apart from the C14 font which is octagonal, with elaborate stem with clustered chamfered shafts with pyramidal stepped bases." The octagonal font cover, of wood with metal decorations and ring handle, appears modern, probably Victorian.
