There is an entry for this Maltby [variant spelling] entry in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/NZ4613/maltby/] [accessed 15 November 2018]; it reports a priest and a church in it. The Victoria County History (York, vol. 2, 1923) notes: "South-west of Stainton is the township of Maltby, which was described in the middle of the 19th century as 'an indifferently built village perched on an eminence.'" The VCH entry (ibid.) also notes that this Maltby "was held by a family who took their name from the place" at the beginning of the 13th century. There is no mention of the Domesday-time church at Maltby in the VCH.
