No individual entry found for Luddenden in the Domesday survey. The Parish web site includes 'A Brief History of St Mary's' [www.luddendenchurch.org.uk/A Brief History.html] [accessed 15 November 2018], which mentions two fonts in it: one of them was introduced in the re-building of 1816-1817, while the other one was an older one restored from the churchyard: "An octagonal stone post standing near the path is a base of the 1625 Churchyard Cross ejected along with the font during the Civil War. They were both discovered in the garden at Ellen Royd and returned at the beginning of the 20th century." The two fonts are also reported in the entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SE0413426223]: "At back of church font dated 1662 has fluted base with rolled top supporting octagonal basin with carved panels to sides, one dated. Near to it is earlier tub font. Near the Victorian pulpit is an early C19 font with octagonal base, concave shaft and small cyma-moulded bowl." The restored font is also noted in Harman & Pevsner (2017): "Dated 1662. Octagonal, with carved panels."
