No individual entry found for Todmorden in the Domesday survey. The entry for this rownship in the Victoria County History (Lancaster, vol. 5, 1911) reports an "old parochial chapel" dedicated to St. Mary, "architecturally uninteresting, having been entirely rebuilt in 1770, with the exception of the lower part of the tower, which belongs to the 17th-century structure"; the building underwent several restorations, the last one in 1897; no font mentioned. The Christ Parish Church was built in the 1830s. The Benefice site [https://todbenefice.com/st-marys-todmorden/] [accessed 31 October 2018] notes: "Originally built in the 17th Century, it was significantly modernised in the late 20th century". Ryder (1993) notes that the "early history of the building is obscure", originally a chapel of Rochdale, with part of the tower perhaps late medieval or 16th-17th century; nave re-built in 1770, and Gothic chancel of 1896; he does not mention a font in it either. The MailOnline edition of 1 March 2017 [www.dailymail.co.uk/property/article-4252776/150k-church-gravestones-sale-Reeds-Rain.html] [accessed 31 October 2018], however, informs: "The large, Grade II listed former church in West Yorkshire is on the market for £150,000 [...] It has been partially renovated to create a single family home, but 'extensive further renovation is still required' and a 'significant' amount of money needs to be spent on it, according to Reeds Rains, which is the estate agent handling the sale. Full planning permission for a five bedroom home across two levels was granted in 2004"; the photographs included in the newspaper article show no font in it. Two auction listings in Munek Ltd (GB) [www.ukauctionlist.com/category/tags/todmorde] [accessed 31 October 2018] appear to relate to this church: one of 15 September 2017 with a guide price minimum of £320,000, and anlother of about a month later, 30 October 2017, with a guide price minimum of £220,000. In both cases the property is described as "This derelict former church premises is being sold with the benefit of planning permission to convert into 13 apartments." Sale records posted in [https://nethouseprices.com/house-prices/street-details-sale/dfb7bf1a93e747989cd1e9f165aabe8f/christ church burnley road, ol14 7bs/2013] [accessed 31 October 2018] show the former church sold 16 August 2013 for £150,000, sold again 25 November 2013 for £180,000. ****NB: INFORMATION ON ST MARY'S APPEARS CONFUSING -- THE NEWS ABOVE SHOW THE BUILDING FOR SALE BUT THE BENEFICE SITE STATES :The church with its central location and excellent facilities is the hub of many activities in the town and is the home of the Saturday Food bank as well as hosting other groups such as Independent Living .
