Church Notes: "In the inventory made by the abbot Mirón of the property of the monastery of San Martín de Albelda in the late 11th century, it is explicitly stated that King Sancho IV of Pamplona granted the church of Santa María of Okina with all its belongings to this monastery in 1073; present church is later, with a 13thC portal; was re-built 16th and 18thC

notes: " La pila bautismal fue mutilada, pues se recortó la parte superior, a fin de hacerla más uniforme." The font, as it stands now [October 2018] consists of a round roughly hemispherical basin raised on a cylindrical pedestal base and a polygonal [octagonal?] lower base; the font is now totally plain and was recently altered; two fragments in the church's small lapidarium look very much like they could have originally been sawed off the top of the basin; other 'cleaning' actions may have been taken to give the font its present appearance. [NB: a visitor to Okina at the time of the 'restoration' wrote to BSI: "Encontré a varios hombres del pueblo de Okina, a unos 18 km de Vitoria, que estaban restaurando la iglesia por su cuenta [...] La pila tenía el borde superior con algunas roturas y decidieron "restaurarla". Con una rotaflex cortaron una rodaja. Creo que tuvieron problemas con los de Patrimonio. "]
