There are two entries for Bratoft [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TF4765/bratoft/] [accessed 8 October 2018] one of which reports three churches in it. Edmund Oldfield's Topographical and historical account of Wainfleet [...] (London, 1829: 124) entry for Bratoft reports an ancient font "adorned with scutcheons, which are emblazoned with various devices" here. Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer (1870-1872) reports "an ancient font" in the entry for Bratoft as well. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: TF4746065020] notes: "Parish church. Early C14, early C15, 1747, restored and chancel rebuilt 1844 and restored 1890 [...] C15 octagonal font with symbols of the Passion, and foliate and grotesque heads on underside of bowl." The octagonal basin has several (4? / 6?) of the panels decorated with shields charged with Instruments of the Passion emblems, the shields themselves framed in uneven cusped quatrefoils; the rest of the panels have pairs of trefoiled windows; the underbowl chamfer has grotesque heads alternating with foliated motifs; the octagonal stem is plain except for mouldings at the ends, and the octagonal lower base has graded mouldings on it. The wooden font cover is octagonal and flat, with metal decorations and a ring handle; appears Victorian. [NB: we have no information on the font(s) of the Domesday-time church(es) here].
