Church Notes: originally the site of a Benedictine monastery, 'Mosteiro beneditino de São Salvador', founded in 1067; the present church probably early-12thC [source: www.igespar.pt/pt/patrimonio/pesquisa/geral/patrimonioimovel/detail/70232/ [accessed 30 April 2013]]
Font Notes:
An located now in the small garden outside the church; it is a monolithic block with a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with a flat moulding at the upper rim, and a round stem that would have probably been connected to a base originally. The basin is irregular, of crude workmanship; the inner basin does have a drain hole but it has been blocked. It may have been used as a baptismal font in the former monastery church in earlier times [NB: cf. Index entry for Fontarcada No. 2 for the present font in this church].
