No entry found for Micheldever in the Domesday survey. The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 3, 1908) notes: "Micheldever church was included in Edward the Elder's [i.e., Edward (ca.874 - 924), son of Alfred the Great] grant of the vill to the New Minster, [...] but no mention is made of it in the Domesday Survey. In the Taxatio of 1291 the church was assessed at £66 13s. 4d. [...] The font, which stands on the north side in the west bay, is modern, with panelling of fifteenth-century style on the bowl. Two fragments of Purbeck marble from an older rectangular font with arcaded sides are also preserved under the tower." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SU5127839316] reports a modern, "perpendicular-style font" of 1880 in it. [NB: email sent to church contact asking for 1)corroboration that the fragments are still there and, 2)a photograph of what is left] -- 12/07/2018/mt]
