Church Notes: original Kanonissenstift of 961 probably had a chapel or church in it, but nothing has survived; a church started early-12thC, of which the ca. 1130 crypt survived; re-built 1250; became parish church in 1810; damaged in Allied bombings 4 April 1945; restored 1965, 1970, 2000-2008 -- Ilfeld monastery-abbey of the Premonstratensian Order, founded ca. 1200
Octagonal basin of limestone on a squat octagonal base; the basin has a roll moulding at the upper rim, and moulded rectangular panels on the sides; at the angles of the basin are constructional columns with foliated capitals. The font is originally from the monastery at Ilfeld, 10 km north of Nordhausen.
