Church Notes: built in 1950-1951 as a temporary church during the waiting period to re-build the ruins of Marienkirche, the parish church that had been much damaged in the WWII bombing; Marienkirche was never re-built but demolished; Neue Kirche remained as a permanent church
Font Notes:
The font in this church was made of bronze in the mid-17th century, and came from the destroyed church of St. Georgen, also in Wismar; the font consists of a cylindrical basin with a protruding upper rim, and otherwise plain except for a row of lion heads decorating the lower moulding side; it is raised on a modern base with four plain legs, but it probably had a more elaborate base originally.
