Church Notes: wooden church here said to have been built by Ludgerus; earliest remains in the present church are 14hC;
Baptismal font made of bronze in 1504 by the Wiedenbrock foundry of Dortmund; it consists of a roundbasin with a protruding upper rim, raised on a slightly splaying moulded round pedestal base, and a circular lower base on the backs of six lions couchant; the upper rim has a human bust facing inwards, the anchoring point for the original font cover; the present font cover is of metal but modern; the upper surface of the rim has an inscription all around; the sides of the basin have a number (4? / 6?) of lion heads all around, right beneath the upper rim; the space between them is decorated with a band of floral motifs; below this band is an inscription, part of which appears to be Mark 16:16 line: "Qui crediderit et baptizatus fuerit, salvus erit"; several thin mouldings frame the bands; rounded underbowl; the splaying stem is decorated with several mouldings; the circular lower base has another inscription on the sides on which the word "dorpmu[n]d[e]r" appears; six couchant lions benath [NB: the may be just protomes, not full lions, but their backs are hidden].
