Font Notes:
The Evangelische Kirche in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern site [www.kirche-mv.de/Die-St-Georgenkirche.4507.0.html] [accessed 21 April 2018] reports a baptismal font of 1620 with a brass baptismal dish of the 16th century. The font consists of an octagonal basin with a rounded underbowl, raised on a slightlt splaying pedestal base, also octagonal; several of the panels of the basin contain inscriptions [texts not available], others appear to have deeply carved scenes; there is carving also on the rounded underbowl; at the top of the pedestal base is a moulding, while the sides appear to be decorated with geometric motifs. There is no cover present; the 16th-century baptismal dish of brass sits atop the stone basin. [NB: we have no information on the font of the medieval church here].
A communication to BSi from Pol Herman (e-mail of 13 April 2026) informs that the font basin includes scenes of the Baptism of Christ as well as the blessing of the children, while some of the sides give quotations from the Gospels of Mark and Matthew; the brass baptismal dish was probably made in Güstrow in the late-16th century and is decorated with a scene of St. George fighting the dragon and a unicorn hunt: "Taufstein in Form eines achtseitigen Kelches, um 1620. Der Schaft mit Beschlagwerk-Feldern, die Kuppa mit Zitaten aus dem Markus- und Matthäusevangelium und den entsprechenden Reliefdarstellungen der Taufe und des die Kinder segnenden Christus‘. Prächtige Taufschüssel, getriebenes Messing, 2. H. 16. Jh. möglicherweise in Güstrow gearbeitet. Im vertieften Spiegel der hl. Georg im Kampf mit dem Drachen. Auf dem breiten Rand zwischen Blütenranken die Einhornjagd."
