Baptismal font made of bronze by Hans Apengeter in 1344, as an inscription just below the basin rim attests; on the sides are two bands with scenes from the Vita Christi: on the upper register are scenes of the Public Life and Passion cycles [Baptism of Christ, Temptentation on the Mountain, Capture of Christ, Flagellation, Crucifixion, etc}; on the lower register are scenes of the Infantia Christi [Flight to Egypt, Massacre of the Innocent, Annunciation, Nativity, etc.]; the scenes do not appear to follow a sequential order in either direction; a band of shields laid diaginally separetes the two registers; some of the shields have motifs and emblems (Star of David, fabulous human and animal forms, etc]; the lower end of the basin has flat leaves with the tips outwards, creating the effect of a defence pattern; the base consists of four seated lions with extended arms that may have held objects [one still does]; the seating position is human, not the usual leonine posture. The font cover has an octagonal low dome on the sides of which human figures [putti?]; between the figures rise very ornate rib-like columns with seated figures forming the upper half; atop the ribs is a dome with a central torsede columnar support; above the dome is a statue as finial, from which top it connects with the pulley end; the whole appears to be made of painted and gilded wood, and it is Baroque in its design; the original cover was probably of a different type, the type to be locked with a crossing rod..
