The 15th-century baptismal font of Baumberg sandstone from this church was moved here in 1851 from the Franziskanerkloster Kirche after the latter was secularised. The font is described and illustrated in Günther Wiede's 'Taufstein in St-Thomä' [https://st-thomae-soest.de/ueber-st-thomae/st-thomae-kirche/111-taufstein-st-thomae] [accessed 13 January 2018]: the font consists of an octagonal basin decorated with window tracery and incorporating two scenes: 1)Christ meeting with Thomas, the Apostle, and 2)the Apostles Matthew and Andrew, each represented with his symbol; the base, which appears to be part of the same block as the basin, has pronounced decorated buttresses, with niches on the sides of the octagonal pedestal; the font was painted and still retains some of the hues; the font was damaged in WWII, and rwas estored by Alfons Düchtingin the 1960s; it now has a decorated ceramic insert with a metal bowl atop.
