No entry for this Burcot found in the Domesday survey. The Victoria County History (Oxon, vol. 7, 1962) notes: "No trace of a church or chapel at Burcot has been found either in the medieval or modern period before 1869, when a chapel-of-ease was built. According to local tradition there was a medieval church at Burcot, but excavations of 1857 in 'Church Field', on the north of the road to Dorchester between Clifton and Burcot revealed no traces of it [...] in the 18th-century Vestry minutes refer to the 'parish of Burcot', and Skelton in the early 19th century described it as a parish without a church". The 1869 chapel was later used as school and later still became a prvate dwelling.
