On-site notes: like the baptismal font at Olfen, the octagonal font here has eight panels in which the central theme is the Adoration of the Magi; like Olfen, this font has the protagonists in separate panels: 1)Madonna and Child; 2)kneeling Magus; 3)standing Magus; 4)standing Magus; here the similarity ends since two sides are decorated with blank quatrefoils, and the other two have 4)Bishop holding staff, and 8)St. Sebastian; the bishop is likely to be Fabian, bishop of Rome (236-250), whose day is the same as Sebastian's, 20 January, and whose body is buried in the church of San Sebastiano fuori le mura, in Rome [NB: both are patrons of this church]; the similarity with Olfen returns, as four couchant animals (goats and lions) set at 90-degree angles adorn the stem of the base; the font appears to have been re-tooled. Late-date bronze cover of conic shape and three levels of busy decorative panels; it is hooked to a vertical side-swing crane located on the west side, the release of which is operated by a pedal.
