On-site notes: the central theme of the iconographic programme on this octagoanl font appears to be the Adoration of the Magi, a scene spread over four of the basin sides [W-SW-S-SE], six if we add the two censing angels at the outer ends [NW-E], leaving two arches for two crowned female figures, one of which is clearly idenfied as St. Catherine of Alexandria by the sword and wheel symbols; the other holds a cross and closed book; the figures are framed in round arches with plain spandrels, except the one with the Madonna and Child, which has a six-point star in the right spandrel; octagonal underbowl; round stem and round splaying lower base with four lions facing up at 90-degree angles; the marble (?) plinth is modern. There is no cover proper present, but a glass or PVC has been secured to the upper rim; this top allows a view of the leaded interior but blocks access to it. The outer surface of the stone appears to have been drastically cleaned, perhaps with some re-carving
