The entry for this church in the Kirchengemeindelexikon [https://kirchengemeindelexikon.de/einzelgemeinde/alfeld-nicolai/] [accessed 7 November 2022] notes that the Gothic baptismal font is from around 1400, a donation in 1576 by the mayor Joachim Lindenberg, located in the chancel; the baptismal dish is dated 1958 and made of copper with rock crystal lid handles; there is another baptismal stand made of red sandstone, perhaps from the workshop of Daniel Bartels (before 1696), now in the sacristy. On-site notes: stone [reddish] font consisting of and octagonal basin with round arches with trefoiled inner frames on the sides: 1)a bishop, 2)John the Baptist; 3)St. Peter holding a key; 4)St. Paul holding a sword; 5)crowned male figure standing; 6)crowned male figure standing and carrying object; 7)male bearded figure kneeling and holding up object; 8)Madonna and Child; the three male figures to the left of the Madonna and Child constitute, with the latter, an Adoration of the Magi scene; above these figures there is a foliated frieze all around; the pedestal base is octagonal and plain; the lower base has graded moulding; both base and lower base appear modern. The metal font cover is modern; a little removable bowl holds the water for baptisms. The font is locally said to have been in this church since 1576 [cf. supra]
