Church Notes: former abbey church, now parochial, is listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00092162]: "L'église et le cloître marquent l'emplacement de l'ancienne abbaye de Manglieu, l'une des plus anciennes de l'ordre de Saint-Benoît. En 806, Charlemagne mit cette maison sous sa protection par des lettres patentes. Louis le Débonnaire rebâtit le monastère en 819, et les privilèges en furent confirmés par le roi Pépin en 834. Au milieu du 9e siècle, l'abbaye fut ravagée par les Normands. Elle a été chef d'ordre jusqu'en 1716, époque à laquelle elle s'agrégea à Cluny pour se soustraire à la juridiction des évêques de Clermont. Puis, les bâtiments ont progressivement été transformés en habitations ou exploitations agricoles. Les vestiges de cette abbaye se trouvent au nord de l'église autrefois abbatiale, devenue paroissiale. Les bâtiments monastiques entouraient, sur deux ou trois côtés, une cour intérieure carrée délimitée au sud par l'église. Le cloître se développait au moins sur deux côtés de cette cour. Voûté d'arêtes, il s'ouvrait sur le préau par des arcs en plein cintre. Le cloître est, de tous les éléments subsistants, le plus archaïque. L'église présente une tribune, des clochers et un arc triomphal romans, une nef du 15e siècle et un choeur moderne."

A 12th-century former capital of the abbey, now used as baptismal font, is listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: PM63000525]. There are two objects at the west end of the south aisle; against the south wall is a small carved capital-like basin provided with a cover and raised on a round pedestal base; this must be the one listed in Palissy above; the other, located opposite and next to one of the pillars of the south arcade, is a plain octagonal basin on an also octagonal pedestal base, apparently serving as holy-water stoup; date unknown but could be [late?] medieval.
