Church Notes: late-11thC church here listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00085456]: "2e moitié 11e siècle ; 1ère moitié 12e siècle ; 1ère moitié 14e siècle ; 18e siècle ; 19e siècle"
Three fragments of a late-11th century baptismal font of yellowish sandstone are listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: PM68000108]: "[E]glise paroissiale Sainte-Colombe [...] trois fragments de cuve baptismale, fin 10e siècle". The three surviving fragments of the old basin indicate that the font was decorated with an arcade of round arches supported by columns with capitals and bases; one of the fragments contains a partial carving of a haloed Christ on the Cross in one of the arches and, in the spandrel above, a quadruped with antlers, perhaps a deer or stag [or is it a lion?]; a second fragment shows three star-shaped floral or foliage motifs with six petals or leaves, two of which motifs are inscribed in circles; the third fragment appears to have remains of an arch-head, another animal similar to the one mentioned above, and a large three-leaf foliage motif. A second entry in Palissy [ref.: IM68007555] [enquête 1996 / date versement 1998/12/07] states that the fragments 1)were dug up in the church floor, 2)where at the time of the 'enquête' wrapped away and not available for inspection, and 3)a suggested date for them is given in the mid-12th century: "Trois fragments de fonts baptismaux ont été retrouvés dans le sol de l'église ; ils sont actuellement emballés et non visibles [...]
