Scene Description: the Mémoire [AP63W00805] source does not unfortunately give a date of the photograph, but it was taken when the font was still partly built into a wall, which may account for the damage done to the font [unless the damage had occurred earlier and the 'bad' side was thus hidden from view]

Baptismal font of gray volvanic stone and dated in the 12th-13th century listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: PM63000413]. The monolithic tub-shaped font has a reticular pattern with thick piping on about two thirds of its surface; one side has a blind arcade of only two arches and, to the left of it, the whole side has been cut off vertically, perhaps to fit it aganst a flat surface. There is no cover present now but the upper rim of the basin shows multiple anchoring holes for earlier covers.
