There are two entries for Holybourne [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SU7341/holybourne/] [accessed 12 July 2017], neither of which mentions priest or church in it. The present font consists of a square basin with plain side, raised on a broad octagonal central shaft and four slender colonnettes, also octagonal, at the angles; the colonnettes have capitals and bases; the whole is raised on a quadrangular plinth with kneeling stone; the font, at least the basin and the central suport, gives the impression of having been re-cut. The wooden cover, octagonal and flat, is modern. There is a tall metal ornament, modern, that fits atop the upper rim of the vasin and the wooden cover; merely decorative.
