design element - motifs - floral - fleur-de-lis - variant
Scene Description: this second fleur de lis has the lower end split into four stems -- notice the damage to the upper rim, quite likely caused by a metal anchoring, of which the font retains four [cf. FontNotes]

Baptismal font consisting of a granite basin of roughly cylindrical shape, with a large protruding moulding at the upper rim, where there are four metals staples from an old cover; the sides of the basin have several rather crudely-executed ornamental carvings: two large fleurs-de-lis with split lower ends, a salrire cross and a vase (?); between the two floral symbols is a Larin cross raisen on a triangular mound; following onto the right is a saltire cross; raised on a plain cylindrical pedestal base and a round lower base or plinth, to which an octagonal extension appears to have been added at a later date. No cover present, but the basin retains four metal staples in its upper rim [NB: there may have been more earlier, as one part of the upper rim is damaged, most likely by another metal staple splitting the stone at some point].
