This must be the font described and illustrated in Drake (2003: 340-341 and pl. V) as a baptismal font of the Marquise group, although smaller than the others of this type; the basin is square at the top and supported at the angles by four slender colonnettes, while the "belly" of the basin is rounded [and appears to be suspended from the angles, much as in the baptismal fonts of the Bodmin group, although the bottom of the "belly" touches the base in this case]; the colonnettes rest on a square lower base which, like the colonnettes at the angles, is constructional with the basin, making the font monolithic. The upper sides of the basin are ornamented with dog-tooth motif, but the angles, which are the capitals of the colonnettes, are carved with human heads and dotted-tape motif; the stems of the colonnettes are plain, but there are square bases decorated with dotted-tape motif. The whole font appears raised on a plain narrow square plinth. There is no cover visible in Drake's illustration but iron staples can be discerned in the upper rim of the basin. [NB: we have not been able to locate a church or a font in the Namur hamlet of Halloy]. Noted and illustrated in Dominique Vermand's Eglises de l'Oise [www.eglisesdeloise.com/monument/halloy-eglise-saint-louis/] [accessed 23 June 2017]: "rare cuve baptismale romane, parfaitement conservée. There is no cover present but there are metal anchoring staples in the upper rim of the basin.
