Khatchatrian (1982) mentions a "Petite cuve baptismale" found in the [then] recently excavated church, and cites M. Pons Almagro excavation report of 1958 [NB: the report by M. Pons Almagro and A. Marcos Badajoz was published in Badajoz by the Imprenta de la Diputación Provincial in 1958]. The present church was built in the 15th century right next to the ancient Visigothic (?) site. The ancient font is described as "pila bautismal por inmersión con cuatro escalones" in Andando por San Pedro de Mérida [www.nuevoportal.com/andando/pueblos/extrema/badajoz/sanpedromerida.html] [accessed 20 June 2017]
