The entry for Villeneuve-les-Sablons in Palissy [ref.: PM60001689] describes the baptismal font in that church and adds: " Un décor identique se retrouve sur une cuve baptismale en très mauvais état conservée à l'église paroissiale d'Hénonville, elle-aussi datée du 13e siècle." What remains now at la Trinité, Hénonville, is the badly damaged basin of a stone font; the shape is octagonal both inside and out, the size of the sides irregular, but the general shape is an octagonal version of the oval 'navette' font type; the decoration consists of the same elements as those noted for the font at Villeneuve-les-Sablons, but the execution is very different, much cruder in this font which gives the impression of being older, whether this impression corresponds to old age or lack of carving skills. If older than the font at V-les-S, why has such an early date assigned to the latter, a font which has many of the characteristics found in 15th- and 16th-century fonts? [cf. Bond's warning about dating fonts using the earlier rather than the later elements in its ornamentation]. [NB: we could not locate a listing entry for this font -- we have no information on the font of the original 12th-century church here].
