The web site Castel Comtal [http://limousin-marche.forumactif.com/t13898-sim-ayen-varetz] [accessed 16 April 2017] mentions a 13th-century child sarcophagus that was re-cycled as baptismal font 300 years later: "un sarcophage d'enfant noble sculpté du XIIIème siècle qui aurait été utilisé trois siècles plus tard comme fonds baptismaux". News of the discovery of an early sarcophage in this church appeared in La Montagne edition of 3 May 2012 [www.lamontagne.fr/varetz/loisirs/art-litterature/2012/05/03/le-sarcophage-millenaire-retrouve-son-eglise_1158311.html] [accessed 16 April 2017], but it refers to a 6th-7th century female sarcophagus found during the works in the interior of the church at the time: "Après analyses par des spécialistes, une datation haute a été définie, certainement entre le VII e et VIII e siècle. Ce sarcophage trapézoïdal en grès jaunâtre en grains fins contenait un squelette qui a été étudié par l'anthropologue Jacques Roger, serait celui d'une personne de sexe féminin de par le sillon pré auriculaire marqué." [NB: we have no information on the font of the 12th-century church here].
