Baptismal font of the 16th century reported in the Journées du Patrimoine : programme local de la 33ème édition (2016), Programme et Animations pour les communes près de Saint-Hilaire-les-Andrésis [www.proxiti.info/journeespatrimoine2016.php?o=45281&n=SAINT-HILAIRE-LES-ANDRéSIS] [accessed 26 March 2017]: "Fonts baptismaux en pierre du XVIe siècle classés". Noted in the Bulletin Municipal de Turny [www.turny.fr/fr/information/37356/eglise-st-mammes] [accessed 26 March 2017]: "les fonds [sic] baptismaux , petit monument octogonal d’une exécution soignée, orné de douze petits sujets dont l’origine est sans doute bien plus ancienne que l’église et qui proviendraient d’autres églises implantées à ce même endroit". The font consists of an octagonal basin decorated with twelve deeply-carved figures in individual panels but related in pairs: two naked fighters confronted, two mounted figures facing each other, two 'woodwooses' confronted, etc.; the underbowl is decorated with very large stylised shell-shaped leaves (?); raised on a round splaying pedestal base decorated with mouldings, scrolls and other motifs. The wooden octagonal cover appears flat and plain; date unknown. The font appears to have been restored since the listing photograph in Mémoire [NUMP MH0031882], where it appeared reinforced by a metal support.
