Church Notes: listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00099853]: "Saint-Etienne-la-Geneste était un prieuré, connu dès 828, appartenant au doyenné de Mauriac, puis rattaché au diocèse de Tulle. Bon exemple d'une petite église de la Haute-Vienne à l'époque romane, ce sanctuaire du 12e siècle n'a subi d'autres modifications que l'adjonction, au 18e siècle, de chapelles latérales dans le choeur, et de contreforts sur sa façade occidentale".

One of two medieval holy-water stoups listed in Palissy for this church; this one ref.: PM19000351: "Le bénitier [granite] est de section circulaire, il repose sur une base indépendante ; le sommet est cerclé d'un bandeau en fer. [...] à la base de la cuve est sculptée une corde ; la cuve proprement dite est décorée sur deux registres ; au registre inférieur se succèdent des arcatures, au-dessus alternent dans des médaillons circulaires : rosaces et fleurettes [...] 12e siècle". [NB: we have no information on the font of the 8th- and/or 12th-century church here].
