Church Notes: "Selon P. Dubourg-Noves, le mur ouest du clocher-porche remonterait au début du 11e siècle et ce même clocher-porche aurait pour l'essentiel été édifié dans la première moitié du 12e siècle et pourvu d'un portail et d'une arcature haute à la fin du 12e siècle ou au début du 13e. Les arcatures aveugles nord et sud sont postérieures à la construction du portail. En grande partie détruite par les protestants en 1562, l'église a été sommairement réparée vers 1600." Au-dessus de ce porche, une galerie aveugle, composée d'arcatures caractéristiques de l'architecture charentaise de l'époque romane, dissimule la partie basse du clocher. Au 15e siècle, l'ancienne église fut démolie et un nouvel édifice construit [...] La nef et les bas-côtés ont été démolis et reconstruits en 1863, mais les murs extérieurs remontent au 15e siècle." Elle a été restaurée et, pour ce qui est de la nef et du choeur, presque totalement reconstruite entre 1865 et 1868".

A document in the Archives départementales de la Charente : O Segonzac. 1868, 19 août. Mémoire des travaux par Lucien Pasquier, maçon à Segonzac, reports a charge of 300 francs for a baptismal font by the artisan named in the title above [cited in Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Inventaire du patrimoine culturel [https://gertrude-diffusion.poitou-charentes.fr/gertrude-diffusion/dossier/eglise-paroissiale-saint-pierre/be1ab8dd-4657-41b0-acde-46cce1beaa20] [accessed 5 March 2017]]. [NB: we have no information on the font of the original 11th-12th century church here]. There are two stone 19th-century stoups listed in Palissy [ref.: IM16000731] located at the sides of the west entranceway.
